"Take Another Look: The Fiber Art of FRCQ"

Nicole's piece accepted for this show is "Sankofa,"
from her "Africa series.

"Three generations—or perhaps the aging of a single woman—are depicted within their African context, with life’s journey symbolized by two pathways stitched with “pebbles.” In the end, an elderly woman displays a quilt pieced in African strip style, suggesting the comforts of home and hearth. Sankofa’s concept, the female life cycle, is nicely complemented by “rivers” of quilting that flow through the piece, and by the connection with nature suggested by the quilt’s outline, which seems to be a stretched animal skin."
